2017 Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan | Himeji Castle
May 21 | Evan | No Comments |The cherry blossoms were catching up with our small group of photographers as we headed north in Japan from Miyajima to Himeji. Himeji is Japan’s most famous and spectacular castle but also famous for it’s hundreds of cherry blossom trees spread out across the castle grounds.
While the cherry blossoms were almost few bloom, we were probably still 2 days or so early for taking photographs of full bloom cherry blossoms with Himeji Castle. The cherry blossoms were still quite nice though and even the castle without the cherry blossoms can be a great subject for our photography tours.
I believe that Mount Fuji is best viewed and photographed from afar, and like Japan’s most iconic symbol, I really enjoy taking photos of Himeji Castle from a distance as well. The past few years I haven’t had much luck with the sunrises in Himeji, but this year’s sunrise at Himeji Castle was quite nice and colorful! Scroll down to see more photos of Himeji Castle at sunrise in the gallery.
The 2017 Cherry Blossom Photography Tour of Japan took our small group of photographers to Tokyo, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Kyoto, Wazuka and Fuji Five Lakes. Take a look at the 2017 Cherry Blossom Tour Trip report to see more from our tour of Japan during cherry blossom season. Want to visit Japan during cherry blossom season with Japan Photo Guide? Private and Custom Tour of Japan | Himeji Castle and Wedding
Aug 03 | Evan | No Comments |The private photography and foodie tour of Japan was going along with great weather and after seeing and eating so much in Kyoto, we decided to take a day trip to Himeji to see the famous Himeji Castle. Himeji Castle is considered by most to be the most spectacular castle in Japan and also one of the best cherry blossom spots in Japan.
Every since finishing the renovation, Himeji Castle has been more crowded than ever, even on this random Summer day with very hot and overcast weather, there was no ends to the crowds visiting Himeji Castle. After visiting the castle grounds and going inside the main keep for a bit, we entered Koko-en Garden, next to Himeji Castle. A very nice strolling garden to walk through though would love to come back here during the Fall for maple season!
After the Koko-en Garden, I guided mom and daughter to a few other spots for scenic views of Himeji Castle. Actually, none of the photos of mine in this post were taken on Himeji Castle grounds. Like Mt. Fuji, I think Himeji Castle is best viewed from afar! Along the way to check out some spots to photograph Himeji Castle from, we had great timing as a couple had just been married and leaving the procession line while the crowd was throwing paper cranes. With our long lenses we were able to take a few great shots, including this spectacular capture below by Isabelle! I tried to take credit for the perfect timing but really was just another case of right time and right place! All the photos below are courtesy of and created by Isabelle Nazha Photography.
2016 Cherry Blossom Photography Tour of Japan | Himeji Castle
May 15 | Evan | No Comments |Himeji Castle is a great place to visit anytime of the year when traveling to Japan, but the best time to visit Himeji Castle to take photographs is probably during cherry blossom season. Japan’s most spectacular castle is also perhaps one of the top 2 or 3 spots to view and take photos of cherry blossoms. Lucky for our group traveling to Japan, we had nice weather and perfect timing in regards to the cherry blossoms blooming.

There is no question that Himeji Castle is the star of the show in the city of Himeji, so finding interesting views to take photos of Himeji Castle is always fun as well. I’m always looking for a better or the best view to take photos of Himeji Castle Below, but not sure I have found it yet! Below is a photo of members of our group tour Japan, taking the photo and then the type of photo we could create from this observatory for a view of the city and Himeji Castle.

The next morning we went up to a park to try and make some photos of Himeji Castle at sunrise. While we would have liked a little more color and perhaps moving the sunrise a little to the right, we still had a better sunrise than last year’s group visiting Japan!
With Tokyo, Hiroshima, Miyajima and Himeji Castle already visited, next up for the 2016 cherry blossom tour was Kyoto, my favorite city in Japan! After Kyoto we would continue our tour of Japan to photography Mt. Fuji and the Fuji Five Lakes, still chasing and photographing the cherry blossoms around Japan! 2015 Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan | Himeji Castle
Apr 29 | Evan | Comments Off on 2015 Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan | Himeji Castle |Before evening returning from the the 2015 Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan, I received a few inquiries about the 2016 Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan! If you are looking for that information, the details of the 2016 Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan can be found here.
Himeji Castle, located in between Hiroshima and Kyoto, is considered to be one of the top 3 castles in all of Japan and also one of best spots in Japan for viewing cherry blossoms. Himeji Castle just finished a 5 year long restoration and fully reopened to the public at the end of March. Between the newly opened castle, being one of the top castles in Japan and being one of the best spots for cherry blossoms in Japan, Himeji Castle was CROWDED! Don’t get me wrong, most popular places for cherry blossom in Japan are crowded, so we were expecting this, but we were told it was a 2 hour wait to go into the main keep!
Luckily, the cherry blossoms are all around the outside and since I had arranged to get tickets ahead of time, we didn’t have to wait long to enter the Himeji Castle grounds. We had plenty of time to explore the castle grounds and find great spots with cherry blossom and the castle and photos of just Himeji Castle.
While we did see our first blue sky and the sun for a few hours in the afternoon in Himeji, we didn’t have much of a sunset or sunrise the next morning in Himeji. I know of a few good places for spectacular views of Himeji Castle, which would really had been nice had we weather cooperated with our group tour but like most days of this trip, we had mostly cloudy and some rain but went anyway…
Want to see more photos from the 2015 Cherry Blossom Photography Tour of Japan? The group tour also went to Tokyo, Miyajima, Hiroshima, Kyoto and some of us to The Fuji Five Lakes close to Mt. Fuji. Stay tuned for more photos from the escorted tour of Japan!
